Simply known as GM, is a North American brand with its headquarter in Detroit Michigan. GM is the eighteenth largest coroprate entity. It also is the third largest auto brand (Fortune Global 500 Magazine, 2008).
GM has manufacturing factories in 34 countries around the globe, and sells vehicles in 140 different countries.
On July 10, 2009 GM stated bankruptcy to the US Government. As of that date, The entire coproation is mostly owned by the United States Treasury, AS of now, GM shares are no longer
GM plans to focus its business on its four core US brands — Chevrolet, Cadillac, Buick, and GMC. Although GM owns European brand: Opel/Vauxhall, it will not be its main focues brad. It will, however, remain in production and continue to be operated by GM.
General Motors began production in Flint Michigan by September 1908. It's name was Buick Holding Company. Buick Holding Company acquired Oldsmobile later that same year. In 1909, The CEO brought in Cadillac, Elmore, Oakland and several other auto companies.
General Motors CEO and owner, William C. Durant, lost a bank babble due to large amounts of debt he needed to pay. Later on, after loosing the company, Duran started the Chevrolet Motor Company. Within a few years after loosing all asetts to the GM company, he secretly purchased a controlling interest in GM, letting him take total control back of the company. This fast, and bold move made history in American businesses most shocking proxy battle. He did win the company asets back. However, in a few years, Durant lost control of the company again; this time for good. Alfred P. Sloan was the new head in the now General Motors Corporation. Alfred P.Sloan led the company to world wide recognition and power.
HYBRID ELECTRIC INITIATIVE
GM delivered the worlds first full sized hybrid pickup in May 2004 under the Silverado/Sierra brand. The 2006 Saturn Vue Green Line was the first hybrid passenger vehicle from GM. GM has hinted at new hybrid technologies to be employed that will be optimized for higher speeds in freeway driving.
