Bayerische Motoren Werke AG. (Bavarian Motor Work) is a automobile company that originated in Germany. It Produces a variety of transportation devices. From Motorcycles to Race Cars, and Trucks. It also assembles different types of engines. However, BMW began by creating aircraft engines back in 1915.
Founded in 1916, BMW, is known for its top of the line performance and luxury. As far as the BMW brand goes, Mini Cooper vehicles is part of the BMW group. BMW is the parent company of Rolls Royce Motor Cars as well.
After World War I endend, BMW was forced by the Versaille Armistice Treaty to cease aircraft engine production. Consequently, the company started building motorcycles in 1923, and soon started building their first automobile in 1928.
The BMW logo is dedicated to their aircraft origins. The cross-like image in the center of the logo is supposed to be a moving airplane propeller, The white bits of the logo are suppose to be the clouds, and the blue symbolizes the sky.
The first aircraft engine built by BMW that was recognized was known as the BMW III: a Inline-six liquid-cooled engine, built in 1918. The BMW 003 Turbojet was the world’s first jet fighter.
In 1959 BMW auto-company had a rough financial patch. Therefor, this led the company to manufacture a petite vehicle known as the Italian Iso Isetta using a modified form of BMW's own motorcycle engine. This was somewhat a boost of novelty and earnings, which was exactly what the company needed. It helped the company get back on its feet. The dominating 46% of the companies stock is owned by a private stock holder. The rest is public float.
BMW bought the British Rover Group in 1994 (Range Rover, Land Rover and MG). By the end of their six year union, Land Rover was bought by For in the year 2000. Phoenix Consortium (a private company) bought the other two Rover products (Roange Rover and MG.) This new Range Rover and MG fusioni became MG Rover. In 2001, BMW decided to build their new product which became one of the most powerful moves until dated. MINI Cooper was assembled.
All BMW productions, until recent years, included the letter “E” in their product names. For BMW, E stood for Entwicklung, which translates to evolution or development. Then ,they include the letter “F” to signify their future models. It began with the F01 7 Series in 2008.
